Welcome to another free crochet pattern! This time I am going to show you how to make a little bit of a different ear warmer than ones I have made in the past. This pattern is a bit more textured than my Simple Ear Warmer Pattern – or my Ribbed Ear Warmer Pattern, but I think that what drew me to this one in particular is the more interesting stitch pattern. I wanted to create an ear warmer headband that stood out a bit more and was maybe a little more “out there” than my previous two designs.
This Ear Warmer/Headband is adjustable to your head size and has an option to make it cross over at the front (as shown in the picture) or you can adjust it and sew the pieces together straight on – and make the headband flat, without any crossover.
This Bobble Ear Warmer does also take a few advanced beginner skills to work up, but I promise it is worth it! It works up quickly – within 30 minutes or so – and will keep your ears warm in style!
Yarn:
For this pattern I am using Lion Brand Wool Ease Yarn for the gray/blue headband in the “Sea Glass” color. For the pink and slightly thinner headband, I am using the Loops & Threads Cozy Wool Yarn in some sort of pink… (silly me misplaced the label, so I’m not sure which shade it is specifically).
You can also use any other super bulky weight yarn. I recommend also using a wool mix, or a wool yarn to make sure that your ear warmer is truly warm. The Loops & Threads yarn I used was 50% acrylic and 50% wool – which is a nice mix – kind of the best of both worlds. Or the Lion Brand Wool Ease is 20% wool and 80% Acrylic – which is also acceptable.
Materials:
- Super Bulky Weight Yarn (6) (See my recommendations above!)
- 6.5mm hook
- Tapestry Needle
- Scissors
Stitches/Abbreviations:
st – Stitch(es)
sc – Single Crochet
sc blo – Single Crochet Back Loop Only
ch – Chain Stitch
hdc – Half Double Crochet
tr – Treble Crochet
Notes/Gauge:
Gauge does not happen to be important for this pattern because the length of the Ear Warmer headband is adjustable. As long as you are using super bulky weight yarn, and the appropriate hook size to make sure there are no gaps in between the stitches then your ear warmer will work out! The larger the yarn and the hook that you use, the bulkier your headband will be… the smaller the yarn and hook the thinner it will be.

Row 8:
Repeat row 3
Row 9:
hdc into the remaining loop from row 7 (the loop we did not use in row 8 when we did sc blo), repeat across, cut yarn (leaving a long tail), then assemble your ear warmer
Assembling the Ear Warmer:
Cross – Over Version:
Take the panel created and fold it in half, bobbles on the inside of the fold (the two short ends together) and then follow the instructions on the pictures that follow:
Then, sew together across the entire fold.
Flat Version:
If you would like for your ear warmer not to cross over in the front, and just be flat – you can simply sew the edges together to achieve this effect, and can skip all of the other assembly steps above.
